The original Minia’s Bake Shop was established by Minia Ayala back in the 1980’s.  She made cakes for family members and friends as a hobby out of her house in Newark. Her clientele list continued to increase mainly by word of mouth. Minia and her husband, Ben, decided that this hobby could extend to a business venture. In 1989 she opened her bakery with the help of her family.  It wasn’t until 1998, and in good timing, that after ten great years of business she decided to close the bake shop. At that time the land was sold for housing and her two daughters, Jennifer and Caroline pursued business in college. That was then, and this is now…

Although taking over the family business was not our first career choice, it was not soon enough that we realized that baking was our passion and it was in our blood. We learned mom’s techniques through the years and on top of that incorporated our own style and creativity.  With our knowledge of creating cakes and formal education we decided to open our own business just as our mom did over twenty years ago. So here we are today taking over the family business, taking care of our families, and doing what we love -making cakes.
